Vincenzo Italiano admits Napoli were ‘just too strong’ in a 4-1 victory at the Stadio Picco, but he firmly believes Spezia ‘deserve to stay in Serie A.’

The Partenopei were already 3-0 up at the break and the result never seemed to be in doubt.

“It was a game that started badly and we never recovered. The credit goes to Napoli, as they were so aggressive and didn’t allow us to get into any kind of rhythm,” Italiano told Sky Sport Italia.

“There’s not much we can say, when Napoli play like this, they are more than a handful for any opponent, let alone Spezia. We tried to fight back and to limit them, but they were just too strong.”

The pace of Victor Osimhen was a decisive factor, as he scored two goals and assisted another for Hirving Lozano.

“We were too timid and didn’t show enough courage when closing Osimhen down.”

Spezia will now have to watch tomorrow’s showdown between Benevento and Cagliari, knowing they could get sucked back into the drop zone.

“The positive is that there are only three games left. It has been a long season, I realise we are struggling at the moment, but we need just one final push to get the job done. I believe we deserve to stay in Serie A.”
