Vincenzo Italiano was left frustrated by ‘yet another dubious refereeing decision’ in Fiorentina’s dramatic 4-3 defeat to Inter.

The Viola thought they had done enough to get a point, coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2, then Luka Jovic’s volley for 3-3 at the 89th minute.

However, they were undone on home turf by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who scored with the aid of a misplaced Lorenzo Venuti clearance.

There was above all a great deal of controversy, as Federico Dimarco was lucky to avoid a red card for his knee-high tackle on Giacomo Bonaventura after 30 minutes, Pietro Terracciano got a fingertip to the ball on the Lautaro Martinez penalty and Edin Dzeko was accused of pushing Nikola Milenkovic in the build-up to the winning goal.

“I don’t even know what to say. It is yet another doubt over the refereeing decisions, as there was a foul moments before the winning goal,” Italiano told Sky Sport Italia.

“Nikola was in the right position, Dzeko even pulled his shirt. It is not the first dubious decision to go against us and that’s worrying when looking at our position in the table.

“It would’ve felt like a victory to come back twice and draw 3-3 against Inter, after the first 15 minutes when we conceded at every shot on target. It would’ve been a reward for the lads, but unfortunately we are left here with regrets and lose a game we did not deserve to lose.”

Fiorentina have tried to play out from the back all season, but too often end up losing it cheaply and giving away goals.

“It’s true that this is not the first time it has happened, we tend to give the ball away and don’t sense the danger. Nonetheless, it’s a pity because Inter scored with the first two chances and we needed to be more concentrated.

“It’s frustrating to not just concede goals when the opposition creates those opportunities, but even giving them away is too much.”

The Viola also seem to raise their game against the bigger clubs and struggle to get results with the minnows.

“I think we are improving, but we should’ve had more against Lecce, did not deserve to lose tonight, so there’s another test coming up on Thursday in the Conference League.”

Nico Gonzalez went off injured, but the only boost can be the sensational Jovic volley.

“Failing to score goals is the worst thing for a striker and it affects their confidence. Jovic is a very sensitive man, he came here wanting to prove himself to the world, had an injury and struggled, but with everyone working together, I hope these goals can be a positive boost for everyone.”

Nothing as bad as the pk that helped save Viola from getting relegated in 18-19, the D’Ambrosio chest ball that was awarded as a pk. Silenzio.

Congrats on learning one Italian word!

Di Marco should’ve been sent off and the penalty for inter was a farce!

  3. It’s funny people talk about who deserves what. The way I see it inter deserves to have won those 4 matches they have lost this season. But in football even a second can change everything and there’re lots of matches for teams to lose and gain points. Inter now have the confidence of winning ugly something that was missing this season. Playing relegation sides is completely different from playing attacking side like Fiorentina who needed points at all cost. Red card, penalty or no penalty at the end the win matters more and the ref can’t give that to anyone. Like the way Barca and Milan are still crying for their failure instead of admitting they lost the tactical battle. If every decision was up for debate then refs won’t be used for matches because if the entire challenge in the match was analysed then more than 3-4 times the ref could’ve given red cards. If Dimarco challenge was a red card then Fiorentina keeper also should’ve got a red card because it goes both ways.Crying won’t change the results. Again so many matches left to go and so many points to gain/lose so I’d rather inter win instead lose undeservedly.

  4. It is simple. Don Venuti is a big time player and shows no bias. After all he gifted the bush leaguers the win last year in the Coppa and returned the favor today. All good.

  5. @Solointer please, Fiorentina GK commited a very light foul because he touched the ball…. for me it was not a penalty but OK. More flagrant were the foul of Dzeko or the Di Marco red card, because that kind of foul it is a red card. Today Inter was helped too much. At least, in the bright side, Inzaghi won’t cry even after gifting Fiorentina the final minutes taking off Lautaro Martinez for another defender. What a buffoon
