Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano explains his choices ahead of tonight’s match against Milan, outlining what he wants from Arthur Cabral and Jonathan Ikone.

It kicks off at the Stadio Franchi at 19.45 GMT.

“Milan have rebooted after a period that was not positive, they now have strong confidence. On the other side, we too picked up important points and want to show consistency,” Italiano told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are in good shape and hopefully today will be an entertaining game.”

Cabral has found the net in each of his last four competitive appearances for Fiorentina and is taking over from Luka Jovic as first-choice centre-forward, both in Serie A and the Conference League.

“He is proving that he can be effective, above all he came on with the right attitude as a substitute and we rewarded him with starts. He is putting in performances and scoring goals, but Jovic has also scored in recent matches.”

Riccardo Saponara is benched in favour of Ikone, who has been a frustrating figure for the Viola supporters.

“Ikone can have many more assists for his teammates, so when he is not decisive in front of goal, he can set up the others. He did it against Verona, he can do it more regularly.”

This won’t just be a battle for three precious Serie A points, as it is also the fifth anniversary of the death of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori from an undiagnosed heart condition.

He went to sleep on the night of March 3, 2018 and never woke up.

The Viola coach at the time was Stefano Pioli and he is now back in Florence on the anniversary of that tragic moment.
