Vincenzo Italiano explains his many changes to the Fiorentina starting XI against Atalanta, including why he cannot give Nico Gonzalez rest right now.

It kicks off at the Stadio Franchi at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from this game and Roma-Empoli on the LIVEBLOG.

This is the first match after the break for international duty and since the Viola were hammered 4-0 by Inter at San Siro.

Italiano has made several changes, including Josip Brekalo, Alfred Duncan, Lucas Martinez-Quarta and Fabiano Parisi.

“There are many reasons for these choices,” the coach told DAZN.

“We play again on Thursday, I am convinced today’s game will drain us in many ways. Atalanta are difficult opponents and I feel these characteristics will allow us to do our best against them, also taking into account the run of games we have coming up.”

Despite all the players being rested, there is no sign of Italiano dropping Nico Gonzalez, despite flying back late from international duty with Argentina.

“Nico Gonzalez returned from international duty and did not seem particularly tired, he had three days to work with the team and recover.

“He scored for Argentina too, so returned happy and it is all going well for him at the moment, so it is right to keep riding that wave.”
