Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano expects another ‘entertaining game full of tempo and intensity’ against Atalanta in the Coppa Italia semi-final.

It kicks off at the Stadio Artemio Franchi at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

The Viola reached the Coppa Italia Final last season and were beaten by Inter, also losing the Conference League Final to West Ham United, but this is their third consecutive Coppa Italia semi-final.

“We still don’t know what will happen, but we always honoured this tournament and the results show that. We are protagonists in a competition we care about, this is a difficult match and I hope the lads have that furore, focus and determination they need,” Italiano told Mediaset.

When these teams met earlier this season in Serie A, it was a 3-2 thriller for Fiorentina decided late on, confirming the tendency for Italiano and Gian Piero Gasperini to play exhilarating fixtures.

“They have always been entertaining games, full of tempo and intensity, with two teams who want to win. I expect it to be the same this evening, we both believe that you have to play with quality and going for the victory.

“What we have lacked recently is a little bit of concentration and that is what we need today.”

These two clubs are the only Italians still in all three tournaments, as they also reached the quarter-finals of the Conference League and Europa League respectively.

“It is very satisfying to still be in all these tournaments in April, along with Atalanta, and it is an exciting campaign.”

These teams were meant to face off on March 17 in Serie A, but that game was called off when Fiorentina director Joe Barone had a fatal heart attack.

“We will never forget our director and will always honour him for the passion and work he gave to us, we want to win something for him.”
