Multiple reports maintain Vincenzo Italiano has agreed a new contract with Spezia, despite interest from Sassuolo and Lazio.

The coach took them to their first ever Serie A season and then steered the side to a more than creditable 15th-place finish.

He had been approached by Sassuolo and Lazio, among others, but intensive negotiations with Spezia over the last few days proved decisive.

Italiano has agreed to extend his contract to June 2023 with an improved salary package.

Sportitalia point to his wages rising to over €1m per season, including bonuses.

Spezia are set to step up their ambitions considerably following the takeover by American businessman Robert Platek.
