Fiorentina are reportedly on the verge of getting their new coach, as Vincenzo Italiano is close to agreeing a termination with Spezia.

It has been a chaotic month for the Viola, who signed Gennaro Gattuso and then split by mutual consent three weeks later amid disagreements over transfer strategy, specifically over-paying for players under the guidance of his agent Jorge Mendes.

They turned instead to Italiano, who had only just signed a new contract with Spezia to June 2023.

At first, Spezia were unwilling to release their tactician, having penned the agreement only a couple of weeks ago.

However, Calciomercato.com and Sportitalia report this evening that the negotiations are progressing well.

Italiano is expected to terminate his contract by mutual consent at a cost of €1m, with talks to take his staff with him too.

He had taken Spezia to promotion for their first ever Serie A season, then secured their place in the top flight for the 2021-22 campaign.
