Vincenzo Italiano is making some tactical adjustments to make up for Dusan Vlahovic’s sale to Juventus, including changing Lucas Torreira’s role.

The Uruguay international joined the Tuscans from Arsenal last summer, on loan with an option to buy for €15m. He has quickly become one of the regular starters at the Artemio Franchi and coach Italiano is now considering changing his role to create more goal-scoring opportunities for La Viola’s strikers.

Dusan Vlahovic scored 17 goals in 21 Serie A appearances before his move to Juventus in January. His replacements, Arthur Cabral and Krzysztof Piatek, have combined four league goals so far. It’s a decent record, but the Tuscans’ coach believes his strikers can be even more effective and has already made some tactical changes.

The main one concerns Torreira. On Sunday, the Arsenal loanee played as an attacking midfielder during Fiorentina‘s 1-1 draw against Hellas Verona at the Artemio Franchi and had two good opportunities to score. Italiano believes that moving Torreira forward would allow Fiorentina to be more dangerous in the final third, allowing them to move the ball more quickly on the edge of the opponents’ box.

Torreira has scored two goals in 23 Serie A appearances this term and seems willing to remain in Florence permanently.
