The Italian football season kicks off on Friday with the first round of the Coppa Italia, including Sassuolo, Bologna, Torino, Udinese, Sampdoria, Salernitana, Monza and Verona in action.
The preliminary round was already completed on July 30 and 31, but the competition proper begins tomorrow.
Several Serie A clubs are involved as well as those from Serie B and Serie C participants Feralpisalò, who caused an upset by eliminating Serie B side Sudtirol 3-1.
Among the most intriguing fixtures are the local derby Modena-Sassuolo and a fascinating clash between Torino and newly-promoted Serie B fallen giants Palermo, who are now owned by City Group.
Verona-Bari also ought to be a high-profile encounter, while Salernitana-Parma, Monza-Frosinone and Genoa-Benevento involve big fanbases.
All these games will be one-off fixtures, decided after 90 minutes, or if needed extra time and penalties.
