Italian sports papers named Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn the Man of the Match in a 2-0 win over Bologna, while UEFA picked John Durán.

Bologna had another disappointing Champions League night, losing 2-0 to Aston Villa on Tuesday.

The Rossoblu have only collected one point in three matches and haven’t yet scored in Europe’s elite competition this term.

Italian newspapers name same MOTM for Aston Villa win over Bologna

According to Italian sports papers, Bologna’s best player against Aston Villa last night was their goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski, even if Swiss midfielder Remo Freuler also received high ratings despite the Rossoblu loss. Both Freuler and Skorupski were rated 6.5/10 by Gazzetta.

Gazzetta, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport had no doubts about the best player on the pitch last night and awarded Scotland international McGinn.

The 30-year-old broke the deadlock with a free kick in the second half, and his performance was “full of accurate decisions,” wrote Gazzetta.

All Italian sports papers rated McGinn 7/10. Youri Tielemans received the same rating from Gazzetta, while Duran, the scorer of the second goal and UEFA’s MOTM was rated 6.5 by the pink paper.
