Ainsley Maitland-Niles was among Roma‘s worst players in the Giallorossi’s 3-4 loss against Juventus, but Italian sports papers also criticised Roger Ibanez and José Mourinho.

Roma were leading 3-1 with 20 minutes to go but somehow managed to lose the game, conceding three goals in just seven minutes and with Lorenzo Pellegrini fluffing a late penalty kick.

José Mourinho had highlighted Roma’s mentality issues after the match, but Italian sports papers pointed out that the Special One is supposed to solve Roma’s woes.

Mourinho: ‘Roma players have weak mentality’

The Special One ‘can’t correct Roma’s personality problems’ according to La Gazzetta dello Sport that rated the Portuguese coach 5/10.

Il Corriere dello Sport was even harsher with a 4.5 rating. ‘The Special one could not find remedies as Roma collapsed in the final minutes of the game,’ the Rome-based paper wrote.

Mourinho was clearly not the only one on the naughty list. Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ Serie A debut was not one to remember.

According to Tuttosport he was the worst player on the pitch (4.5/10), while La Gazzetta and Il Corriere dello Sport gave him and Roger Ibanez the lowest ratings (5/10).

Serie A | Roma 3-4 Juventus: Incredible Bianconeri comeback

According to Italian sports papers, the Arsenal loanee struggled to control Federico Chiesa and was at fault for at least two of Juventus’ four goals.

The 24-year-old had arrived in Rome on Friday and only trained once with his new team before making his debut with the Giallorossi yesterday.

10 thought on “Italian media highlight Mourinho’s errors and Maitland-Niles’ shocking Roma debut”
  1. Hey arsenal kid. Why don’t you make your debut in Rome a day after arriving marking the hottest player on the planet. Smart call Special one 🤦🏻‍♂️

  2. Funny, because the BT sport commentators from the UK were saying Maitland Niles had an amazing debut, haha. I think that was before the 70th minute though

  3. Chiesa owned him on the first goal. Burst past him, dished off to Dybala for the gol.

Ball is nowhere near Chiesa and this joker needs to do that?

  4. The headline of this article shows how little the authors understand the game of football. Watch the entire game and analyze the key points of the game without bias and hopefully will stop giving the public misleading information.

  5. BT Sport coverage.
    Hutchison is useless.
He mangles the English language with every other sentence. At one point, he bemoaned Juventus‘ inability to pick up Tammy A. at a corner; it was a Juventus corner.
He speaks with the giddy glee of somebody who can’t quite believe he’s getting paid and hasn’t yet been found out.
He makes Tony Dorigo’s analysis look Socratic.

  6. Another mistake from Jose. He’ll do an interview next telling us how terrible the kid is or blaming the fans or the ref. Good potential there but that was not the game to test him in a new team and new league. Great entertainment though.

  7. When Dybala is subbed off, Mourinho goes over to hug him. LOL ! Dybala was laughing at it.

Which other Manager does that in the heat of the battle?
