Italian journalist Massimo Marianella believes Nicolò Zaniolo would not be a regular starter at Tottenham, even if Antonio Conte stays.

The Italy international has been linked with a move to North London in the winter transfer window. He has asked to leave the Giallorossi in January, given that talks over his contract extension have not progressed.

His current deal at the Stadio Olimpico expires in June 2024, but the Giallorossi haven’t yet sit down with the player’s agent Claudio Vigorelli.

Tottenham and Milan have reportedly opened talks with the Giallorossi, but none of the two clubs have matched Roma‘s asking price or is open to signing the player on a permanent transfer.

Sky Sport journalist Massimo Marianella, perhaps one of the most known experts of English football in Italy, believes Zaniolo would not play as a starter if he moves to North London.

“When he is fit, he has the characteristics to play in the Premier League. It could be a good idea with an Italian coach, but even in that case, he’d be a back-up for Harry Kane, not a starter.”

If he joins Tottenham in January, Zaniolo will reunite with his compatriot Antonio Conte although the contract of the Italian tactician expires in June and he doesn’t seem willing to extend his stay in North London.
