Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora has called a meeting with Italian football’s chiefs for Wednesday to discuss resuming the Serie A season.

The plans are already in place and the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) sent over the protocol for training in safety during the coronavirus pandemic.

Now Minister for Sport Spadafora has called a videoconference meeting with the Presidents of the FIGC, Lega Serie A, Serie B, Lega Pro, AIC (Italian Players’ Association), AIA (Italian Referees’ Association), the Federation of Sports Medicine and members of the scientific committee who drew up the protocol.

It has been set for Wednesday April 22 and after this discussion, we should be closer to knowing the schedule for resuming the 2019-20 campaign.

Football in Italy has been shut down since March 10 and training cannot resume until the Government lockdown decree expires on May 3.

Once that has begun, with regular testing, players kept in small groups to maintain social distancing and a slow return to full fitness, it’s expected the Coppa Italia semi-finals will be the first games back.

Those should be on May 27-31 and played on neutral turf behind closed doors at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

The first legs have already been played, so they resume from Milan 1-1 Juventus and Inter 0-1 Napoli.

Serie A is then likely to begin again from June 2-3.
