Mauricio Isla insists his compatriot Arturo Vidal dreams of joining Flamengo: ‘I already gave him my shirt.’

Vidal joined from Barcelona on a free transfer one year ago, but Inter are reportedly trying to offload him, given that his salary raises from €5m-a-year to over €6m-a-year this season.

“I’ve spoken to Arturo many times, he’s had a difficult time, he wasn’t at his best during the Copa America. He dreams of playing for Flamengo,” Isla, a former Udinese and Juventus midfielder, told Flamengo TV.

“He is training with Inter, but he dreams of playing for Flamengo. I already gave him one of my Flamengo shirts and one of Rafinha’s. During the Copa America retreat, we watched a Flamengo game  together.”

However, Vidal has recently suggested he is not planning to leave the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza this summer.

“I met the new coach and have been talking with him for three days,” Vidal told Inter TV earlier this week.

“I can’t wait to get back on the pitch, as last season was not too good for me, I lost the last few months of the campaign due to injuries. This season I want to be at 100 per cent and show the whole world who Arturo Vidal is.

“I spoke to the club, we have a good rapport. They have a great deal of faith in me and I feel the same way about them. We need to see the Vidal that everyone knows, targeting a Scudetto and going all the way in the Champions League.”
