O'Shea was released so he could be with his wife, who is due to give birth this week, while McGeady was recalled by Spartak Moscow.
"McGeady has been given permission by Trapattoni to leave the squad after his club were in contact to request if he could be released ahead of forthcoming club games," confirmed a Football Association of Ireland spokesman on Sky Sports.
It means Shane Long, Andy Keogh and Sean St Ledger are set to start against the Azzurri.
