Simone Inzaghi wants Inter’s winter title to be a motivating factor ahead of tomorrow’s match against Torino.

The Nerazzurri currently top the Serie A table after 18 games, four points clear of second place Napoli. The club have only lost won league game all season, against Lazio back in October, and they’ll remain top of the table even if they lose to the Granata tomorrow.

Speaking to Inter TV ahead of the match against Torino, Inzaghi started by discussing his satisfaction at the team’s current position in the Serie A table. ‘It’s normal that I am satisfied, we are very happy with this winter title but we know that it doesn’t end up in the honour roll, so we are happy, it’s a good feeling but it must be motivation to do even more.’

The 45-year-old Italian coach was happy with his squad’s progress this campaign but highlighted the need to stay alert, saying ‘we are in a good moment, the guys are all involved, we are lucky to be able to always work very well, despite the many games we have had. We are doing well but we know that our path is still very long, we have seen that in these first 18 league games the top of the table has changed quickly.

‘We are in line with what the club had asked of us, which was to return to the top four, to maintain the top four positions in the league, so we are happy. The team is working very well and this is an incentive for us to continue on this path, knowing that there are always many pitfalls.’ He said.

Rather than worrying about the schedule for the next two months, Inzaghi noted that ‘we know what the schedule has in store for us, but right now I’m worried about tomorrow’s game because we’re up against a healthy, well-organised team.’

The former Lazio coach expressed his admiration for Ivan Juric and his Torino side, detailing how ‘they have quality and quantity players and in the last four games they have had two draws and two wins. They are on a positive streak, the coach is very prepared and I respect him a lot, he manages to bring out the best in his teams.’

Finally, Inzaghi commented on the upcoming Champions League match against Liverpool and how it’s important to prepare a variety of ideas and plans for each game. ‘Liverpool is still a long time away, we know we have to get there in the best possible way.

‘Already from these first four months we have seen that between injuries and disqualifications you always have to have different ideas in your head because the team for these reasons can always be evolving from one day to the next.’
