Inzaghi: ‘VAR cost Lazio seven points’

Simone Inzaghi was frustrated after Lazio’s 0-0 draw with Inter. “Without VAR, we would’ve had an extra seven points. I don’t enjoy it.”

The Aquile had already raged against this technology several times this season and this evening they were awarded a penalty, which was then rescinded.

As the ball ricocheted off Milan Skriniar’s leg on to his arm, it cannot be considered voluntary handball.

The Aquile had already raged against this technology several times this season and this evening they were awarded a penalty, which was then rescinded.

As the ball ricocheted off Milan Skriniar’s leg on to his arm, it cannot be considered voluntary handball.

“With the two points from today, we would’ve had an extra seven points this season without VAR,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“There are regrets, but evidently VAR is not fortunate for Lazio. I agree it wasn’t a penalty, but the fact remains there have been decisions in our favour where the VAR was not even checked, so it’s inconsistent.

“I’ll be honest, I don’t like this technology. I have more fun in the Europa League, where there is no VAR, because I don’t think it’s fun for the players, the Coaches, the fans or the media to wait for two or three minutes before celebrating or hugging. It takes the emotion out of it.

“Anyway, we deserved to win this evening. People said Inter were tired after the Coppa Italia, but we played against Fiorentina on Tuesday as well.

“The squad is enjoying its football, won the Italian Super Cup already and topped the Europa League group. We want to stay up there in the top places in Serie A, despite everything, because we deserve it.

“I am proud that the lads were disappointed with this draw in the locker room. It’s a sign of our maturity. Samir Handanovic is a great goalkeeper and he rescued Inter on several occasions.

“Felipe Anderson is a great resource and we’re happy he’s returning from that length injury lay-off.”
