Simone Inzaghi hints this 5-0 Champions League Final defeat to PSG might be his last game for Inter. ‘It did not seem like my team. We’ll see over the next few days and sit down with the club.’
This was the second Champions League Final in just three years for the Nerazzurri, but while they were only narrowly beaten 1-0 in Istanbul by Manchester City in 2023, it was a very different experience in Munich.
Paris Saint-Germain dominated the match from start to finish, emerging 5-0 winners with an early Achraf Hakimi goal, a brace from 19-year-old Desiré Doué, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and 18-year-old Senny Mayulu.
Inzaghi admits shocking Inter performance

“It did not seem like my Inter, we are the first to recognise that, but nothing takes away my pride in these lads for their journey. We met a team that deserves to win the match, to win the Champions League, and is probably a better team than we are,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.
“We had a bad initial approach to the game, we conceded early and then got stretched out, which made it easier for Paris Saint-Germain. This ugly defeat clearly gives us great bitterness, but it does not cancel out what we did to get here.”

This result means that while Inter had been in the running for a Treble only a couple of months ago, they now end the season completely empty-handed, having missed out on the Serie A title by one point to Napoli, losing the Coppa Italia semi-final and the Supercoppa Italiana Final to Milan.
“Naturally, we should’ve done better, but I will not forget what the lads did this season. It’s true, they end up with zero titles, but they still did incredibly well. I told them that in the dressing room, they ought to have their heads held high. There is disappointment tonight, but this group deserves compliments.”

Inevitably, this will increase the questions over Inzaghi’s future, with strong reports he is ready to accept the €30m per season offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
Has he already decided if this was his last game for Inter?
“We’ll see over the next few days and sit down with the club. After the second Final lost in three years, there is too much disappointment to think right now. There will be time to speak calmly with the club.
“The President and directors were ever-present, and again stood by our side in the dressing room this evening.”

Luis Enrique’s key was to constantly press Yann Sommer, therefore preventing Inter from playing out from the back, so Fabio Capello on Sky Sport Italia asked why they didn’t change tactic with a long ball to avoid that.
“We did try that, but they were stronger on the second ball too and once we conceded the first goal, we got stretched out. Clearly, we should’ve done better, played better technically, cleaned the moves, but we didn’t do what we had hoped to this evening,” replied Inzaghi.
Davide Frattesi had scored some decisive late Champions League goals this season, but was left on the bench throughout.
“Davide deserved to play in the Final, but once I decided to put on Zalewski in place of Dimarco, as we were not creating much down the left, at that point Calhanoglu and Bisseck were forced off with injuries and we were 3-0 down. At that point, I preferred to make different choices,” concluded Inzaghi.

I was wrong about Inzaghi he is not a good coach at all . Italy and Italian teams suck they only know how to lose finals. The way psg played with that aggression is the way the game should be played . Italy will never learn playing 37 year olds
Como would’ve played a better final than Inter. Daniele Bonera would’ve made better substitutions than Inzaghi. Heaviest UCL final loss in history. Another disgraceful record for Italian football, brought to you by Inter.
Plss leave out inter Milan 4 us u are a loser with ur old football tactics how can u be defending in a final match so disappointing a lot of things is wrong today the coach has already hv is 1st eleven in mind he did not select base on training or form

Credit to Inter for making the UCL final for the 2nd time in 3 years. An amazing feat to compete with clubs whose budget exceeds Inters many times over. Great night for PSG and their fans. PSG were too young too sharp and too quick for Inters dad’s army.. Nor did Inzaghi show any courage when at 2-0 down with 30 min to go he brought on two defenders. 🤌🤌🤌. PSG then went on to score another 3.
