Simone Inzaghi thought Lazio’s Coppa Italia triumph over Atalanta showed “those who come off the bench can be more important than the starting XI.”

The Biancocelesti won their seventh Coppa, but were arguably the underdogs going into the Final with Atalanta, having lost home and away to the Orobici in Serie A this season.

However, substitute Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Joaquin Correa scored late goals to secure the triumph 2-0 at the Olimpico.

“It was a wonderful evening in front of marvellous fans. We had a great game, but also congratulations to Atalanta, as it was hard fought, the same way it was in Serie A, and this time we did well to turn the incidents our way,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

“I told the lads that at times those who come off the bench are more important than the starting XI. I am satisfied, as we had a wonderful run in this Coppa Italia.”

Inzaghi was asked whether this would be his last trophy on the Lazio bench, seeing as there are reports he’ll part company with the club this summer.

“We wanted this victory, this trophy, because we gave it our all and will now enjoy this night. Thank you.”
