Inter coach Simone Inzaghi started with a win on penalties over Lugano in the Lugano Region Cup, as Stefano Sensi and Hakan Calhanoglu were absent.

The Nerazzurri started with a positive result at the Cornaredo Stadium, the first match with Inzaghi in the dugout.

The former Lazio coach replaced Antonio Conte, who secured the Beneamata’s first Scudetto in 11 years in 2020-21.

Stefano Sensi and Calhanoglu were absent, whilst the players that played in the second phase of the European Championship this summer will return gradually to the squad.

Inzaghi started in a 3-5-2 formation and Lugano went ahead with a two-goal lead, before Danilo D’Ambrosio and Uruguayan 20-year-old Martin Satriano scored one each to make it 2-2 and thus take the game to penalties.

Inter won the penalty shootout, where goalkeeper Ionut Radu saves and Andrea Ranocchia scored the decisive penalty.

Starting line-up for Inter (3-5-2): Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, Ranocchia, Dimarco; Darmian, Nainggolan, Agoumé, Gagliardini, Dalbert; Satriano, Pinamonti
