“We didn’t return from the last two breaks for international duty in the best way, so it’s always a bit of an unknown quantity,” said the coach in his press conference.

“I’ve only had the full squad back together from Wednesday. That’s the same situation for Sassuolo, of course, as they too have a lot of internationals.

“They are a quality team with a fine coach and caused us problems last season. There were two draws, though they deserved more in the first game and we should’ve won the second. They are sparkling, have quick strikers and we have prepared well for this.

“There are many hidden dangers in this game, we all know that. I had to shout at my players in training, as the things we were trying out didn’t go the way I wanted. The next day, we were far more concentrated.”

Lazio are currently in third place, on a par with Cagliari, and in the thick of the fight for a Champions League spot.

“We’re only 12 rounds in, so it’s early days yet,” added Inzaghi. “It depends above all on us and the way we approach the games. We must realise there are no easy matches, we always need to be determined and aggressive.”
