During his pre-match press conference in the build-up to Inter’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Benfica, Simone Inzaghi responded to criticisms about the club and Romelu Lukaku from former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher.

Gallagher, an ardent Manchester City supporter, was recently asked who he would like to see his side face if they were to make it to the Champions League final.

There is a 75% chance of an Italian team featuring in the final, given that Inter, Milan and Napoli are all in the quarters and are all on the same side of the draw. That chance becomes a guarantee if Inter overcome Benfica on Tuesday evening.

When asked who he would most like for City to play against if they reach the final, Gallagher responded: “If you ask who I’d prefer, well I’d prefer Inter, because they aren’t very good. Lukaku is dreadful.

“Then AC Milan, because Napoli are a bit better. I think Napoli would be the best Final, because of the fans and the noise.

“All the Italian teams have a good atmosphere really. But if I have to choose, because they’re not very good, I’d choose Inter Milan.”

Inzaghi has since replied to Gallagher and his claims that high-flying City will meet Inter in the Champions League final in Istanbul in June.

“He’s a great singer,” he said. “I hope he’s also lucky in his predictions: seeing Inter in the final would make us all happy.”
