Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi said a win against Roma could be ‘fundamental in terms of motivation’ as the Aquile search for a third consecutive win in Serie A.

The Biancocelesti arrive unbeaten in 2021, collecting seven points from three League games and Inzaghi said his men are ready for the Derby della Capitale at the Olimpico on Friday.

“We all know what the Derby represents here in Rome,” Inzaghi said at a press conference. “Both teams take risks.

“It will be important for us tomorrow; we want to build on the two wins.”

Inzaghi is confident ahead of the meeting with Giallorossi and expects to see the right approach from his players.

“The season says that the team have always done well in a certain type of games,” he added. “I saw in the eyes of the players, that they are aware of what’s at stake in this anomalous derby, without fans.

“But they will be there with the heart, the same that we should put on the pitch.”

The coach said the Aquile can’t afford to ‘make mistakes’ against a solid Roma.

“Roma are an excellent team and have a coach that I respect a lot,” Inzaghi continued. “But I think my Lazio are no less.

“We must compete, be aggressive and determined. We know we can’t make mistakes, there must be no mistakes.

“We are preparing well for the match, in detail in both phases of the game.”

Lazio confirmed Senad Lulic has been included in the squad list for the second half of the campaign and Inzaghi is ‘happy’ to have his captain back in contention.

“We are all happy,” he said. “He’s our captain and has been out for 11 months.

“He has suffered a lot and is not feeling a lot better. He’s a point of reference in the dressing room.

“I hope that from tomorrow, he can contribute on the pitch too.”

The coach has not given anything away regarding the line-up against the Giallorossi, and couldn’t confirm if he will make any changes from the Parma match.

“We will see in training today and tomorrow morning, then I’ll choose the best team.

“[Danilo] Cataldi and [Mohamed] Fares [are out], while we will intensify the workload for [Joaquin] Correa and see if he can be there.

“For [Ciro] Immobile and Luis Alberto, I have only positive news.”

But the coach admitted the Derby della Capitale will not be the same without the fans in the stadium.

“It will weigh a lot, as it has weighed since the lockdown,” he said. “I have some players who need them.”

But the coach focused on securing the third win on the bounce, after successes against Fiorentina and Parma.

Inzaghi claimed another win could represent a turning point for Lazio, who are unbeaten in 2021,

“In terms of motivation, it could be very important,” he said. “In the standings we are a bit late and we must focus on the next game.

“We haven’t won three consecutive games this year, it would be fundamental.

“We qualified in the Champions League, Roma in the Europa League, they are different competitions to prepare for.”
