“It was a long and complicated season, difficult for everyone, and practically it felt like more than just one campaign,” Inzaghi told Lazio Style Channel.

“We gain European qualification for the fifth year in a row, although there are some regrets we were unable to book a Champions League spot.

“It remains a very good season. There were many victories I remember fondly, from Roma to Milan. If I have to choose one, it’d be Borussia Dortmund, as that was our return to the Champions League after 13 years and it was such a great performance. Don’t forget Dortmund ended up fighting it out with Manchester City.”

Lazio already know they will finish sixth and close their Serie A campaign against Sassuolo on Sunday evening.

Luis Alberto, Luiz Felipe and Andreas Pereira are all suspended, with Francesco Acerbi and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic injured.

“We’ve got problems with Immobile too, as he has a slight fever. We’ll play our game and honour the campaign, the way we always have done.”
