Lazio Coach Simone Inzaghi assures Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will get back to his best – “I’ve been there as a player”.

The Serbian’s form last year made him one of the most highly sought-after midfielders in Europe, but he’s struggled to replicate that this term.

The Serbian’s form last year made him one of the most highly sought-after midfielders in Europe, but he’s struggled to replicate that this term.

A banner close to the Stadio Olimpico at the weekend described the midfielder as a “gypsy”, and he was also insulted by fans in the stadium.

“He took a knock against Samp,” Inzaghi explained in his Press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Eintracht Frankfurt game.

“He did two days working alone, today he was in the group for part of the session. I’ve been there as a player too, there are times when things don’t go well.

“Fans and critics will come, you just need to respond with performances.

“I’m very confident, if he’d scored against Samp on Saturday we’d be talking about a different Milinkovic.

“I’ve spoken to him, and he must give his answers on the pitch. Luckily we play every three days, so he can change the narrative very quickly.”

Tomorrow’s match is effectively a dead rubber, so could Lucas Leiva make his return to the side?

“My intention is to put him on the bench, then maybe give him a little run out, depending on his condition today and tomorrow.

“He’s very important for us and he’s getting better, but he’s already had one relapse so we need to be careful.”
