Inter boss Simone Inzaghi sees tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich as an opportunity after Saturday’s loss to Milan.

The Nerazzurri seek a reaction in the opening game of the Champions League Group C at the Stadio Meazza tomorrow.

“Defeats must turn into opportunities, we analysed Saturday’s game,” Inzaghi said at a press conference as quoted by FCInternews.

“We did well in some moments, but we only scored two goals. We were in control until 1-1, we would have deserved a draw considering what we produced, but now we must work harder, starting with me.

“It will be important to have our fans at the stadium, they will help us, we know we face a strong opponent. The group is very competitive, and tomorrow’s game must be an opportunity after the disappointment in the derby.”

The Nerazzurri suffered their second Serie A defeat this season on Saturday and want to start their Champions League campaign on the right foot.

“I’ve watched Bayern’s last two games and despite the two draws, they were superior by looking at the stats. Their opponents were aggressive and managed to limit them, but Bayern remain one of the best clubs in Europe in terms of intensity,” said Inzaghi.

“Criticism are part of football and I like constructive criticism because it’s stimulating, but I have to make decisions for Inter’s good.”

The Nerazzurri have conceded eight goals in five Serie A games so far, as many as in Antonio Conte’s second season at the club, which ended with Inter’s title win.

Just like Hakan Calhanoglu, Inzaghi believes that defenders are not the only ones to be blamed.

“It’s not the case to talk about single players, we all have to improve. I have doubts regarding the line-up, after the press conference, I will check this morning’s data.

“We know we must earn ten points in the group, it’s more complicated than last season, but it’s an opportunity to face one of the three or four candidates to win the Champions League.

“Your college spoke about Bastoni and Barella, you talk about Onana. People always chase the guilty one, but I am the main responsible. Everyone is running at a slower pace in Serie A, not just Inter. We must focus on one game at a time, we can all improve.”

Inter will also face Barcelona in this season’s ‘group of death’. Who does Inzaghi fear more? Sadio Mané or Robert Lewandowski?

“We faced Mané with Liverpool, he has an incredible intensity which is crucial in both phases. Lewa is a top player. We’ll face them four times in a month and a half. These are going to be exciting games.”

Finally, Inzaghi discussed Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Robin Gosens’ chances to start tomorrow.

“Mkhitaryan had a good impact in the derby, he has quality and quantity. He will help us and he has been working with the team for a week, he can be an option from the start or coming off the bench.

“Gosens is training well, he is an exemplary professional. He nearly missed the entire last season, but I am happy with how he is training. I will decide whether he plays or not.”
