“Caicedo had a few problems in training and I usually wouldn't have risked him, but this time we had no other options, so I asked him to grit his teeth and bear it,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.
"SPAL had won two of their last three away games, so this was not to be taken for granted.”
The Aquile now have 49 points in 21 Serie A rounds, having won 15, drawn four and lost only two, scoring 52 goals and conceding 20.
"We have to work on ourselves. It's natural there is enthusiasm around us, and it was a pleasure to see the crowd today, but we must always try to improve. We saw again today in other results that every Serie A match is tricky."
Lazio tried to buy Olivier Giroud from Chelsea in the final hours of the January transfer window.
“Unfortunately, with so many games in a row, it would’ve been helpful to have another option in attack during Correa’s injury.
“We do have this young lad, Bobby Adekanye, who is trying to adapt to Italian football and doing it pretty well so far. A new signing would’ve been helpful, but Adekanye is a very interesting player from the Liverpool youth academy, he’s very professional, respectful and waits for his chance to play.
“If I really need to, I can also push Luis Alberto or Sergej Milinkovic-Savic up to act behind the striker.”
Lazio are currently in second place, as Inter play Udinese tonight, but the Aquile also have a game in hand to play against Verona.
“We want to just keep putting in performances like this. There are another 17 to go for us, so we take it one day at a time, as we have done throughout the last four years.”
