It is remarkable that the Biancocelesti were able to pick up a point in Bruges, as they left 12 players behind due to injuries and last-minute COVID-19 tests.
Nonetheless, Joaquin Correa had put them in front and only an avoidable penalty for Patric’s clumsy challenge allowed Club Brugge to get the 1-1 draw.
“I asked for character, the lads brought out everything they had within them amid a thousand difficulties,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.
“We were unlucky at the end too, as we could’ve done better with a couple of late scoring opportunities.
“The penalty was a distraction. Aside from that, when we should’ve paid more attention, it was tough because the last two days have been surreal and Brugge were fresh from a win away to Zenit St Petersburg.
“Without doubt, this result can make a big difference to the group. What mattered the most tonight was the performance, and the lads did something remarkable amid a thousand difficulties.”
Inzaghi also spoke to Lazio Style Radio and revealed some other background to just how desperate the situation was.
“We had to replace Patric at half-time, as he started to feel nauseous and dizzy. Andreas Pereira only arrived this afternoon and did really well to come on.
“I’ve never been in a situation where I had only 12 outfield players. We’ve evidently got to live with it and hope it doesn’t happen again.
“Marco Parolo has played in so many different positions this season and I thank him for that.”
