Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi has claimed the Biancocelesti are ‘close’ to reaching ‘our main target’ ahead of the match against Torino tomorrow.

The Aquile bounced back with a 2-1 win against Fiorentina on Saturday but sit four points behind league leaders Juventus due to the 3-2 defeat to Atalanta in their first match back after the interruption.

But Inzaghi looks at the bigger picture and insists his side are closing in on the target they had set before the season started.

“The boys showed desire and commitment to stay here, the win on Sunday brings us very close to our main target,” he said at a press conference.

“Our target was the Champions League, something we have been missing for a long time.”

Lazio prepare to play their third match in seven days when they travel to Turin and have only had two days to recuperate between their three first matches after the pandemic.

“We hope to recover our physical and mental energy,” the coach added. “There’s little time to recover, it goes for us and the rest of the squads.

“Against Fiorentina we showed a spirit of sacrifice, soon we hope to be able to count on other players who are out and who will allow me to rotate more.

“We know our path, four years ago we started trying to improve year after year. We have won trophies. The goal is to reach the Champions League, we are close. When we reach that target, we will think about the rest.”

Inzaghi continued to address the tough fixture list when he gave an update on his players, and praised Danilo Cataldi for his commitment to the cause.

“We will play 48 hours after the Viola match, Cataldi will come with us, he is generous, he wants to be there but is not ready to play.

“We will see if he can be involved somehow. We will evaluate [Joaquin] Correa, he has been moving better. We will also have to study the conditions of [Felipe] Caicedo and [Ciro] Immobile.

“The others, we hope to recover for Milan.”
