Simone Inzaghi explains why he chose to rotate the Inter squad against Crvena Zvezda in the Champions League, fielding an entirely new strike partnership.

It kicks off at San Siro at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

This is a must-win fixture for the Nerazzurri, who started their European season with a 0-0 draw away to Manchester City.

“It’s our home debut in Europe, we must try to build on the good performance in Manchester and are up against a good team,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

The coach has rotated the squad, leaving Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram and Federico Dimarco on the bench, but Davide Frattesi does not start.

“Frattesi is one of our many players, he did really well on Sunday, but with Barella injured I am missing a mezz’ala and decided to spread out the commitments.”

Marko Arnautovic and Mehdi Taremi are an entirely new front pairing, so how did Inzaghi decide to pick them against Crvena Zvezda?

“We’ll see how the game goes. These two strikers are training very well and what I saw there convinced me to change. It is a long and intense season, so we will need everyone.”

They have stuttered in Serie A, losing the derby to Milan and drawing with Genoa and Monza, while battling to a 3-2 win away to Udinese on Saturday.
