Simone Inzaghi reckons Inter needed patience to beat Spezia and is satisfied with Denzel Dumfries’ performance.

The Serie A champions took all three points in a 2-0 win over Thiago Motta’s Spezia at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Roberto Gagliardini broke the deadlock in the first half and Lautaro Martinez killed off the game from the spot in the second half.

“It was important match, we approached it in the right way. We put in a solid performance and on Saturday we’ll have another tough game,” Inzaghi told DAZN.

The Nerazzurri leapfrogged Milan and moved one point behind Napoli, but both sides have a match in hand, which they play tonight against Genoa and Sassuolo, respectively.

“We are improving, with this unity and desire, we can grow even more,” Inzaghi added.

“We knew they’d sit deep so, so we needed patience. We must continue like this because Atalanta are playing really well, while Milan and Napoli are going fast.”

Denzel Dumfries returned to Inter’s starting line-up following Matteo Darmain0s injury and Inzaghi is satisfied with his performance.

“I am really satisfied. He had been left out in the previous matches because Darmian was doing well. Dumfries is an added value,” the Nerazzurri coach said.

Inter visit José Mourinho’s Roma on Saturday and have a few players out of action, especially Stefan de Vrij, who sustained an injury while on international duty.

Will he recover for the match in Rome?

“We’ll see in the coming days,” Inzaghi said. “Today I had two defenders available and I added Dimarco.”

  1. Dumfries just needs games and, taking it along those minutes, confidence. Clearly his teammates consider him a valid asset as well, as you can see they tend to rely on his runs, where he used to be more shaky earlier on. Nonetheless this was a game against Spezia and a good performance against Roma is fundamental for the further development and season.
