Simone Inzaghi admires the ‘maturity’ of Inter in their 3-1 win over Cremonese, shrugs off Robin Gosens rumours, but reiterates he is ‘waiting for another centre-back.’

The Nerazzurri got right back on track after their 3-1 defeat to Lazio, beating Cremonese by the same result at San Siro.

Curiously, all three goals were on the counter-attack, as the minnows were attack-minded and very clumsy on their corners.

Joaquin Correa, a sensational Nicolò Barella volley and Lautaro Martinez completed the rout before a late David Okereke curler into the far top corner.

“I am very happy, because it was not an easy game to win against a Cremonese side that this season has deserved far better results,” Inzaghi told DAZN.

“On Friday we played well in the first half against Lazio, but then incidents changed the game. If Denzel Dumfries had scored that opportunity on 1-1, we’d be talking about a very different game.

“We are one point better off than at this stage last season, but it’s only the start and we know there’s a very long way to go. We need to improve.

“This side fought to the end for the Scudetto, we won two trophies last season, so we experienced joy and disappointment, but still won two trophies that Inter hadn’t lifted in 12 years.

“Expectations are always very high at Inter, perhaps there was too much talk about the defeat to Lazio, but I don’t mind it, as it fired us up. We analysed that match and played a mature performance this evening.”

Because Milan were held to a 0-0 draw by Sassuolo today, that means Inter go into the Derby della Madonnina ahead of their city rivals in the Serie A table, albeit with Romelu Lukaku injured.

“It’s an energy booster to win, but it means nothing at this stage. I saw the reaction of a mature team. Correa had this flexor issue, but I don’t think it’s serious. Marcelo Brozovic had a knock, again there shouldn’t be a problem.”

There are growing reports that Inter are set to sell Robin Gosens to Bayer Leverkusen and he came off the bench as a late substitute this evening.

“I don’t know anything about Gosens. My main worry is that we need a centre-back. I only have Stefan de Vrij o spare, I have told the club I am waiting for a central defender, because I need six men in defence and we currently only have five.”
