Simone Inzaghi says Samir Handanovic will be Inter’s starter in goal next season and explains what Romelu Lukaku can offer to the Nerazzuri

The Serie A giants begin their pre-season tomorrow and Inzaghi and Marotta met the media at Appiano Gentile today.

Both were asked for updates about Paulo Dybala, but the Nerazzurri seem to have cooled their interest in the ex-Juventus star.

“We all know Dybala, it’s useless to talk about him. We have six strikers in the team, it’s not fair to talk about players who are not with us,” Inzaghi said.

The same goes for Gleison Bremer who is Inter’s No.1 target to replace Milan Skriniar.

“Like for Dybala, I don’t like to talk about players who are contracted with other clubs. We’ll talk about him if we have a chance. Now it’s not correct.”

The Nerazzurri have already signed several players, including Lukaku, who has returned to the club on loan from Chelsea. André Onana, Raoul Bellanova, Kristjan Asllani and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have also moved to the Stadio Meazza.

“It will be a strange season, we’ll play 20 games in three months and then rest for 50 days. It’s something new for everyone,” said Inzaghi.

“I have an excellent relationship with Lukaku, the club informed me about this possibility and to me, it was a great coup. However, don’t forget that we had the best attack in Serie A last season. Lukaku will give us more options and solutions, but I don’t forget what my strikers have done.”

How will he use the Belgian striker?

“It’s early, but I already have a few ideas. Last year we alternated games with more or less pressure. Lukaku gives us more options and then there are other strikers who have already done well.”

How about Edin Dzeko, he will no longer be a starter next season. How will Inzaghi manage him?

“We know how important he’s been for us and he will be an added value also in the next season,” said Inzaghi.

“We won two trophies last season, but we regret that we didn’t win the title because with 84 points, you win it five times out of six. We start again with the same enthusiasm and we hope that will be the right time.”

Will Milan Skriniar leave? Are Inter prepared to replace him?

“I am well protected. You all know who the directors are and what they’ve achieved in the last year and a half. Skriniar belongs to Inter, he had a great season, he will join us for the pre-season and then I don’t know what will happen.”

Inzaghi continued his press conference by revealing that Handanovic will be the first-choice goalkeeper next season and explaining the club’s targets in the market.

“Handanovic will be the starter because he deserved it last season. We all know Onana’s value, it’s the goalkeeper of Inter’s future and he will have his chances to shine,” the coach explained.

“We must replace Ranocchia, the directors are already working. De Vrij is our only central defender at the moment. Our target is to have 20 outfield players and I want to promote three Primavera players permanently.”

“Asllani is very young, but he looks older than his age. He has clear ideas, he has a great Regista ahead of him [Marcelo Brozovic], he must steal to him some secrets, we followed him for one year and he has improved massively lately.
