Inter coach Simone Inzaghi said he was ‘sorry for the club, the fans and the players’ after the 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid but claimed the Nerazzurri will qualify if they continue to ‘play like this’.

Inzaghi’s men had a host of chances but didn’t manage to beat Thibaut Courtois, who had a great game in the Real Madrid goal.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team ultimately picked up three points in Milan, as Rodrygo scored the winner in the 89th minute and helped Real Madrid start on the front foot.

The Nerazzurri coach claimed Inter must learn to ‘pay more attention’ but pointed at a great performance and was still ‘confident’ despite losing the first game.

“We had to pay more attention, there was a minute to go,” Inzaghi told Amazon Prime Italia. “Let’s look ahead, let’s think about how we held our ground against Real Madrid.

“I asked the team for personality and courage, which we had. But we faced a goalkeeper who was difficult to beat.

“I’m sorry for the club, the fans and the players who gave everything. Against these teams you cannot lower your concentration, but playing like this, I’m confident we will qualify.”
