Inter coach Simone Inzaghi insists he has not made a firm decision on whether Andre Onana is the first-choice goalkeeper, despite the start against Sassuolo.

It kicked off at the Mapei Stadium at 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT).

“We are coming off an excellent game against Barcelona and need to follow that up today,” Inzaghi told DAZN.

“It’s a difficult game against an organised Sassuolo side that has quality. We need a very strong performance.”

The big change today is that Onana is given his Serie A debut, having so far been chosen for the Champions League while Samir Handanovic was previously chosen for domestic matches. Does this mean Onana is now the first-choice Inter goalkeeper this season?

“It is a decision, just like I make many every day,” assured the coach.

“I had a doubt until this morning, much as with other roles in the starting XI. Unfortunately, the only area where I don’t have much choice at the moment is in attack.”

Does this mean that Onana is now the first-choice Inter goalkeeper?

“No, these are choices that a coach has to make on a game by game basis.”

  1. Rotating keepers is never a good idea. You need to convey safety and presence from the back. All the best teams through the ages have had a commanding presence in the net and this ripples forwards.
