Simone Inzaghi believes Inter ‘could’ve won’ their 0-0 draw away to Shakhtar Donetsk, but failed to make the most of their chances.

The Nerazzurri picked up their first point and clean sheet of the Champions League so far, but again failed to find the net in a 0-0 draw away to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Nicolò Barella hit the bar, while only two late saves denied Joaquin Correa and Stefan de Vrij.

At the same time, it’s also fair to say Roberto De Zerbi’s Shakhtar dominated possession, poured forward throughout the second half and Milan Skriniar made a miraculous block on Pedrinho from a yard.

“We faced a team in good shape that had a lot of the ball, while we must accept the blame for not making the most from our chances,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“We could’ve finished better, we had five really good scoring opportunities despite it not being our sharpest performance. We could’ve won it.

“Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko really sacrificed themselves for the team. Correa and Alexis Sanchez were coming off injuries, we’ve got a lot of fixtures and we knew this would be a dangerous game.”

It is the first point of the group for both Inter and Shakhtar Donetsk, neither of them able to score a goal yet.

“Shakhtar are an unpredictable team, so considering how much we created, we should’ve scored. We hit the crossbar and their goalkeeper made some great saves. We’ll see what happens at San Siro.”

  1. Don’t worry fellow Interisti …..after Inter‘s performance against shaktar I can make you one promise:

I promise you that no matter what happens over the next 4 Champions League games that Inter’s goals scored per game average will not get lower than your goals scored per game average after the first 2 games !

  2. @I MISS MARCO BRANCA Thanks for caring mate! But Juve has been the club with the most runner up in UCL. Don’t you think it’s a bit embarassing? Trashed by Real, Barca and Dortmund, unable to score against Hamburg and Ajax and lost on penalties against Milan.

  3. @Kev : what’s more embarrassing than setting the Italian record as the only Italian team to fail to pass the Champion’s League group stage for a record of 3 years in a row? I know the answer: setting the Italian record as the only Italian team to fail to pass the Champion’s League group stage for a record of 4 years in a row ! How can a team that has only 5 Champions League wins in the last 10 years even talk about Champions League ? just put it this way, Andrea Pirlo has more Champions League wins as coach of Juventus than Inter has Champion’s League wins in the last Decade !
