Simone Inzaghi was ‘very angry’ with Inter after their 2-0 home defeat to Sassuolo. ‘A team that wants to win the Scudetto cannot get the approach as wrong as we did today.’

The Nerazzurri knew a win here would allow them to leapfrog Milan and retake top spot, but instead Giacomo Raspadori and Gianluca Scamacca made the most of sluggish defending to give Sassuolo a shock 2-0 result at San Siro.

It’s hardly a new achievement, because the Neroverdi have now won away to Juventus, Milan and Inter this season, playing a big role in the Scudetto race.

Serie A | Inter 0-2 Sassuolo: Scamacca stuns San Siro again

“I am very angry with the approach, because we had three days since Wednesday’s game, we talked about the fact Sassuolo beat Juve and Milan away, they play great football and we had to be wary.

“We tried to do everything in the second half, created so many chances and were unlucky, but the fact remains we should’ve had a different approach. Sassuolo had great technical quality, they were fresher physically and it showed.

“We will analyse the situation, we know there are 13 games to go, we are all up there and want to keep going forward. The fact is, a team that wants to win the Scudetto cannot get the approach as wrong as we did today.”

In the last six Serie A games, Inter had 110 shots on goal and scored just six times, including 30 attempts for zero goals today.

Edin Dzeko and Denzel Dumfries were introduced at the break and seemed to step up a gear in their intensity, but continued to waste chances.

“I would’ve happily changed more than two at half-time. We lost some of our organisation, we tried to open it up again, but we have to analyse what went wrong today. There’s another match in four days, we know that we play continually and need to be stronger than absences, bans, injuries, setbacks, everything. We’re all in there and will see what happens at the end of the season.”

Lautaro Martinez continued his goal drought and missed an absolute sitter from point-blank range this evening.

“I don’t think there is anxiety, the great champions are accustomed to these games. I think there was a lack of sharpness, there was some fatigue, both physical and mental. My staff and I tried to focus the players this week, but we conceded two early goals that we usually don’t allow.

“We remain the most prolific side in Serie A this season and will get back to scoring goals soon. When you are a striker and don’t score, you just have to stay calm, the goal will come.”

  1. You have to understand the your squad doesn’t have the depth to fight on all fronts. Please choose wisely!

  2. You not need scudetto dont worry to much, already got one last year. Better now think how to cruch liverpool!

  3. Dont ever put gagli again. Even serie B player can do better than him. Dude plays major part in today loss, hard slap for Inzaghi

  4. I’m glad that the opinion regarding Gaglia is universally the same. But how on earth is he still at Inter. He used to to play in the national team and it was clear he was a serie b player but he kept surviving at Inter. Inzaghi actually puts him as an attacking midfielder in this match and what happens when he receives the ball just outside the box. Inter were playing with a couple of players down in the first half

  5. Still is not late…just forget it yesterday match..focus for Genoa…every match will not be easy…sometimes the club who battle with relegation will be more tough than facing Juve.
