Inzaghi insists Skriniar won’t leave Inter, while Perisic ‘made a different choice’

Simone Inzaghi insists Milan Skriniar won’t leave Inter: ‘The market is closed.’

The Nerazzurri are still dealing with financial issues and Skriniar has been linked with a move to PSG for a long time.

Negotiations have been ongoing for several weeks, but Inter have rejected every offer for the Slovakia international insisting that he would not leave for less than €70m. Now, Inzaghi believes the defender won’t leave the club and expects one new signing in defence.

“It was agreed with the directors and the club. Out of respect to the fans, we should not talk about transfers anymore but only focus on the pitch. The club knows we have a problem following the departure of Andrea Ranocchia and are working to sign a new player in defence,” the Inter coach said at a press conference.

However, Inzaghi also claimed that the ‘market is closed’ both in terms of departures and new signings, so it remains to be seen whether the Nerazzurri will actually get a replacement for Ranocchia who has joined Monza on a free transfer.

Danilo D’Ambrosio could be a valuable option for the Nerazzurri coach if the club fails to sign a new centre-back.

“A replacement will come, Skriniar replaced De Vrij when he was not available last season,” Inzaghi explained.

“Danilo [D’Ambrosio] and Matteo Darmian are the fortunes of every coach because they can help in every part of the pitch. As of today, Skriniar would replace De Vrij if he was not available.”

Inter saw Ivan Perisic join Tottenham for free at the end of his contract with the Nerazzurri earlier this summer, but Inzaghi is happy with the reinforcement brought in by the club.

“We must aim to the top. We have lost Perisic who was very important but made a different choice. We brought Lukaku back and signed valuable players such as Mkhitaryan, Onana, Bellanova and Asllani who have quality.

“It’s great to have two goalkeepers like Handanovic and Onana, who has settled in well. He is a smart guy and will have his chances. He is a very important option for the staff and me.”
