The Aquile pushed through the difficulties of torrential rain and strong winds to secure a 2-0 victory in Crotone, with Ciro Immobile and Joaquin Correa on target.

It was the ideal way for the Italy international to mark his comeback after several weeks out with COVID-19.

“Ciro was excellent, he’s a leader and scored a very important goal to win a very difficult game against a team that in my view is playing good games,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“I think Immobile is doing great things, his statistics are excellent. I am also happy for Correa, as he had scored in the Champions League and now got his goal in Serie A. He arrived on Friday after two flights and with jetlag, I asked him for this huge sacrifice and he repaid me today.

“Our problems have been injuries, suspensions, COVID, all reasons that meant we never had a full squad at our disposal. That was the case today too, as don’t forget we left Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Senad Lulic, Thomas Strakosha and Gonzalo Escalante at home, among others.

“Every time we get a couple back, another one drops out, but that is the situation we’ve become accustomed to.”

Inzaghi was asked if he will extend his contract at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I have been here for 21 years, I am very happy, we have a rapport with the President, with Tare, Peruzzi and De Martino, we are always together and working in the same direction.

“There will be negotiations, we’ll see what happens, but everyone knows what Lazio means to me.”

There were reports Luis Alberto would be dropped today as punishment for his criticism of the new Lazio plane.

“I spoke to Luis Alberto, he knows he was wrong, he apologised publicly and it was my duty to get him on the pitch in the best possible condition, as he is an enormous talent who mustn’t waste that with stupid things off the field.”
