The Biancocelesti coach expects a response after a 3-0 defeat to Sampdoria in Serie A last weekend, as he prepares his troops to bounce back against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

“We said it and we talked about it with the lads,” Inzaghi said at a press conference. “We know where we were mistaken in Genoa, that’s in spirit and desire.

“Tomorrow, I want to see a response from the team, who are aware they didn’t have a good performance against Sampdoria.

“We’ve had many players absent in the past, but we have always responded well.”

The coach revealed Andreas Pereira will not be available against Dortmund tomorrow and added that Cataldi could be out as well.

“He has been out for five days, he has the flu. We won’t have him with us tomorrow either,” Inzaghi added. “From this morning Cataldi has trouble with his stomach too. We hope to recover him.”

Rumours in Italian media suggest Max Allegri could be ready to take over unless Simone Inzaghi reaches an agreement over his contract renewal with Lazio.

“I’m used to seeing so many names thrown about in links with Lazio,” Inzaghi said about the rumours. “Due to the relationship I have with President [Claudio] Lotito, he would have told me if there was any discomfort.

“The only problem now are Borussia Dortmund, a very strong team.”
