Simone Inzaghi explains his squad rotation as Inter visit Monza this evening and has ‘absolute faith’ in Davide Frattesi to continue his Italy form at club level too.

It kicks off at the U-Power Stadium at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

This is an opportunity for the Nerazzurri to go clear at the top of the table, as Juventus were held to a 0-0 draw by Empoli yesterday evening.

“Clearly, this is not going to be an easy match and we see every week that Serie A games all have hidden dangers,” Inzaghi told DAZN.

“We need to have the right attitude, as Monza are in good shape. We analysed their performance against Fiorentina and they had a very good performance against a quality opponent, so we must have the right approach from the start.”

Monza had been 2-0 up at the Stadio Artemio Franchi before capitulating to a late 2-2 draw, sealed by ex-Inter wingback Robin Gosens.

Inzaghi puts faith in Frattesi

It had raised eyebrows to see Frattesi be the top scorer for Luciano Spalletti’s Italy and yet barely get a game at club level, so the midfielder starts this evening.

“We know that there are going to be a lot of games crammed together, so we have to prepare them one at a time, just as we have done in recent years. That also means rotating, as I have absolute faith in everyone, but can only pick 16 players between starting and coming off the bench, even if 23 deserve to play,” assured Inzaghi.

Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram start upfront, as most of the rotation has been in defence and midfield.

“I tried to study the training sessions and clearly those who stayed behind from international duty were able to work better, but I found everyone in good shape.

“Both Taremi and Lautaro had long journeys, so I opted for this pairing, but we’ll see if we change during the game.”
