Inter coach Simone Inzaghi said the match against FC Sheriff Tiraspol is ‘fundamental’ for the Nerazzurri’s path in the Champions League. ‘We need aggression and determination’.

The Nerazzurri have only picked up one point in the first two games of the Champions League and the leaders arrive at San Siro on Tuesday.

FC Sheriff Tiraspol overcame both Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid in their first two games, which has alerted Inzaghi ahead of the third round in Group D.

“They didn’t win two games by chance, we faced the other two teams, and they are excellent,” Inzaghi said at a press conference. “We know that we will meet a team boosted by enthusiasm, organised and not just sitting back.

“We must be good going forward, without losing our formation. It’s a game that will be fundamental for our journey.”

Skriniar: ‘Inter concede a lot, we are not happy’

Inter score a lot with Inzaghi at the helm, but they concede more goals too and Milan Skriniar said the Nerazzurri must improve defensively.

“My teams create and score many goals,” Inzaghi added. “In Serie A, we are the best attack, but we have conceded a few more.

“Tomorrow we have to score, because we haven’t managed yet [in the Champions League].

“Against Real Madrid we were not precise, tomorrow will be a great opportunity to go back to scoring and to win.”

Inzaghi’s men arrive from a 3-1 defeat to Lazio last time, but the coach believes there are many positives to take from the match in the Italian capital.

Inzaghi: ‘Inter are very angry after Lazio’

“For 65 minutes we played the best away game, the only big problem is not being able to score the second goal,” he added.

“Lazio have quality and if you keep them in the game, it’s not good. There’s disappointment and it makes me very pleased that the lads are angry.”

He stressed in an interview with Sky Sport Italia that the Nerazzurri are ‘angry’ and a team of ‘winners’ ahead of the press conference.

This is something Inzaghi believes can help them take the next step forward in Europe.

“We need aggression and determination,” he continued. “I repeat: it will be a fundamental match for us and we must win it with intelligence and awareness.”

Alexis Sanchez has struggled to find space under Inzaghi, but has returned from a positive spell with the Chilean national team this month.

“The South Americans trained well, Alexis played three games in a row with the national team and I’m happy because he improves physically,” Inzaghi added. “He will be an added value.”

Inter started with a similar attacking style last term, but then restored the balance defensively, which helped them win the Scudetto.

“We are trying to improve the balance,” Inzaghi said. “But I think it’s wider problem, we don’t concede goals just because of the defenders or the attackers.”
