New Inter coach Simone Inzaghi returns to the Stadio Olimpico for the first time as an opponent this weekend, but it’s reported he’ll receive a warm welcome from Lazio supporters.

The tactician walked away from a contract extension just days after seemingly agreeing to remain on the Biancocelesti bench.

He replaced Antonio Conte at San Siro and has had a strong start to the Serie A season.

On Saturday it will be the first time he has stepped back into the Stadio Olimpico to face Lazio as an opponent, having represented the club for so many years as a striker first, then a coach.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Inzaghi will be largely greeted with warmth by the Lazio fans, who blamed President Claudio Lotito for the split.

Inzaghi hopes to walk under the Curva Nord before kick-off, where the ultras are based, to salute them.

The 45-year-old made 196 competitive appearances for Lazio, scoring 55 goals.

As their coach, he won the Coppa Italia and two editions of the Italian Supercup.
