Simone Inzaghi says Inter must score in the first half against Liverpool tomorrow and insists his side deserved a better result in the first leg.
The Nerazzurri visit Anfield Road in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 tomorrow. They lost 2-0 in Milan three weeks ago and Inzaghi believes his men deserved something more in the first match against the Premier League giants.
“The result is affecting us, we played a great game and the result was too penalising for us,” the coach said at a press conference.
“It will be a difficult game tomorrow, but we have great motivation. It is important, I would say essential, to score a goal in the first half, but we know that it will be a very difficult match.
“We prepared the game in three days, the lads are focused. We face the best team in Europe with Bayern Munich and Manchester City. It was great to play the first leg in Milan and we are aware that tomorrow it will be even more difficult.
“Inter hadn’t reached this stage of the competition for many years and we knew that we would face a top team having finished second in the group stage. We did our best in the first leg and we’ll do the same tomorrow.”
Liverpool midfielder Fabinho also admitted that the early stages of the game will be crucial tomorrow as the Reds must avoid letting the Nerazzurri get any confidence.
“We must try to kill the game as quickly as possible,” said the Brazilian midfielder.
Jurgen Klopp added that Inter wouldn’t go to Liverpool as tourists and admitted that his team could benefit from the absence of Nicolò Barella.
