“If we can leave a defeat against the leaders and do it with regret, it shows how far we have come,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.
“We were up against Gianluigi Donnarumma, the best goalkeeper in Europe in my view, and the team gave everything it had. It’s disappointing, because after such a good performance, you expect a different result.
“We are new to Serie A, so conceding naïve goals like this will help us to mature. We cannot afford to gift two goals like that to Milan. I can’t complain, Benevento played an extraordinary match and ought to be proud of that.
“Playing out from the back means taking certain risks, but if we don’t try to play and attack, then we may as well kiss goodbye to any hope of safety.”
SuperPippo won’t deny it was an emotional occasion, especially just a few days after drawing with brother Simone’s Lazio.
“Milan will never be a game like the others for me, just as it won’t be playing against my brother. Once the final whistle blows, we’ll go back to cheering each other on.”
