Milan Coach Filippo Inzaghi says Alessio Cerci has been his primary target since the summer, and praises Fernando Torres.

Cerci has joined Milan in a loan exchange with the former Chelsea striker, with Torres moving to Atletico Madrid for 16 months and Cerci coming the other way.

It was confirmed today that Cerci’s contract has been deposited at the League headquarters, making the move official, and Inzaghi admits he’s a long-term admirer of the man who will wear number 22.

“Since the summer my priority was Cerci,” the Rossoneri Coach told journalists in his Press conference ahead of tomorrow’s match with Sassuolo.

“You [the media] all know that I was going to ask the President for Cerci, he has unique abilities and I can see that he’s motivated and has a desire to prove himself.

“He’s trained a little, but he doesn’t have much game time under his belt, but I can see that he’s eager to do well.

“Everyone knows his qualities, up front we have players with different attributes. It’s up to me to see if I’ll be able to fit them all into a system. I have an idea of what he [Cerci] can do thanks to training.

“He can help us out by coming on in these next few games. The fitness tests went well. Even at this early stage he can help us out for 20-25 minutes in a game.”

The tactician then spoke about departing striker Fernando Torres, and praised the Spaniard’s attitude.

“We left things in the best way [with Torres].

“He sent a message to me and to all the staff. He didn’t leave just because we’d discovered Menez [in a striker’s role], every Sunday I had to make a difficult choice.

“The lure of Atletico was massive for him, and he expressed his desire to return. It was a good deal for everyone.

“I’m sorry he’s gone, but we ended things in a beautiful manner. He’ll still be a big fan of Milan, and we’ll be a big fan of him.”
