Le Streghe realised why they are in the bottom three today, as against 10-man already-relegated Crotone for over an hour, they still were pegged back for a draw in stoppages.

Their fate is now out of their hands, as Torino need just one point from the remaining two games – the midweek rescheduled fixture with Lazio and final head-to-head with Benevento – to secure their safety, with Cagliari already out of danger.

Curiously, Torino will be facing Lazio on Tuesday and Pippo’s brother Simone at the Stadio Olimpico.

“This has been the problem this season, 19 shots on goal and we don’t kill the game off,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s not possible that the opposition goalkeeper is always the man of the match, clearly we’ve got to look at ourselves too. We should’ve tried a tactical foul and stopped the move earlier.

“Now we will cheer on Lazio and hope that it’s still open going into the final game.”

Incredibly, Benevento were 10th at the midway stage of the season, but have managed just one win from their last 21 Serie A games, and that was at the Allianz Juventus Stadium.

“Naturally there is disappointment, the game was practically over, but if you leave it open when it should be 3-0 or 4-0, you run the risk of this ending.

“Crotone were already relegated and wouldn’t let us take anything for granted, so now we hope Lazio will do the same against Torino. We still have this hope that we can have our fate in our hands and fight for our safety in the final game.”
