According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Investcorp is close to completing Milan‘s takeover and the new owners could decide to build a new stadium only for the Rossoneri.

The Bahrain-based is expected to finalise a €1.18 billion deal by the end of the next week as the two parties should sign preliminary contracts between Thursday and Friday. La Gazzetta dello Sport confirms that the agreement is just around the corner and adds a detail regarding a new club-owned stadium.

Mohammed Alardhi, the Executive Chairman of Investcorp, is convinced that the Rossoneri should have their own stadium and not share it with their city rivals. Alardhi believes that a stadium should only be owned by Milan, be entirely Rossonero and dedicated to the club’s fans every day of the week.

A project for a joint stadium had been approved at the end of 2021, but the feasibility of the operation is now been questioned because of a public debate that won’t take place before May.

Constructions works in the area of San Siro won’t begin before 2027, so the Milanese clubs are also considering moving outside the city, building a new stadium in Sesto San Giovanni. Both Paolo Scaroni and Alessandro Antonello confirmed yesterday that the two clubs are determined to create a project together, but according to La Gazzetta, Investcorp’s takeover could change the scenario.

20 thought on “Investcorp wants new stadium only for Milan?”
  1. uhh don’t like this. Don’t like any of it (only talking about stadium stuff).
Maybe i’m an old fashioned calcio fan who still is stuck in those romance stories.
But to me already quitting the San Siro is just unthinkable. I’m glad I was able to see the derby there.
However.. Already leaving San Siro is bad but then only a Milan stadium? The Inter-Milan Derby really is also characterized by the stadium. Its like a battle on so many levels. The fight for who is the rightful owner to the stadium throne…. That’s just the way I look at things.
Although maybe having a separate stadium with half the load on the pitch would make for an overall better pitch? Or I don’t know maybe it can be managed…..Eitherways, sad that San Siro will be abandoned.

  2. Dollarumma – it’s a weird one because I agree entirely – the two Milan clubs sharing just seems right. An extension of the home, of sibling rivalries in a shared space and the constant (but almost always friendly) battle for p**sing rights.

But then I wonder how much of that is simply because “that’s how it’s always been”. I’m Mancunian, and if I think about it (whilst I don’t follow either so can’t say for sure) the idea of City and Utd sharing a ground, somewhere between Stretford and Beswick, it seems impossible on so many levels. ‘The Swamp’ and the ‘Emptyhad’, the going behind enemy lines; it’s all just as special.

I hope we find a way to share, but I mostly hope Milan, and then the whole league finds a way to compete on the global stage again.

  3. I prefer Milan build their own stadium so that they can make a lot of profit, it helps Juve a lot ever since they built their stadium, the money Milan and Inter pay for San Siro yearly is too much and it affects the team a lot during the time of Berlusconi

  4. Makes perfect sense. Each team in the Premier League has their own stadium, one which they OWN and don’t rent from their local government for 14M per season. You don’t see Atletico sharing the Burnabeau, Or Man City sharing the Ettihad. Heck, even Bayern kicked out their lesser Munich based team years ago.

Milan have a chance to build something for the long term here, and in order to do that, they need a sustainable revenue stream. Owning their own stadium will do just that. We are talking about gate receipts of over 180M per season (just this year Milan have had over 1M attendees to their matches). If that means that they have to go at the stadium project alone because Inter and their Chinese owners are not financially trusted, why the heck not?

Plus, I’m pretty sure Inter will be happier renting the San Siro when the pitch isn’t in tatters after every 2 weeks.

  5. Which is why Milan vs Inter are special.
They are both big clubs in Europe who shared a stadium.
Their derby atmosphere is incomparable to any other derbies.
I would love to see they still shared a stadium in the future, but if it can’t happen, then so be it.

  6. I’m in full support of this if it’s true coz it makes more sense to own a stadium rather than share. We are not in the 80s anymore.Even Atalanta own a stadium like Juve.

  7. I love San Siro and the derby, but I agree that Milan should have their own stadium. If Milan can make a new stadium by themselves then why should they share it with other clubs? Inter can build their new stadium with their own money or just continue rent San Siro.

  8. These stadium sharing in Italy is not encouraging, time for the Italian league to take a step and become the greatest in Europe again

  9. Sharing a stadia in 2022 should not be happening on so many levels. A club can generate so much revenue alone from it opposed to renting from the local government. One of the reasons serie A still behind. Most clubs sharing and rent from local councils. Milan need to own and have a stadium that belongs to them and their fans. As as Juve fan the stadio Della Alpi was iconi but it moving into the new stadium was magical. It will be the same for Milan especially with a higher seater. Besides why should Inter benefit from Milans new ownership.. the best European club in Italy is and will always be Milan. Best Italian Club and always be will Juve. Inter is a nobody lol. (I’m attracting the interistas). They can only play the “First italian club to win the treble” card, and I say good for you, well done.

  10. AC definitely need their own stadium, if only to stick it up the council who have dragged their feet on approving a new stadium. The potential new owners are called Investcorp for a reason. They realise the only way forward is to have their own stadium.
