Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer has the chance to outdo Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon and Lazio shot stopper Ivan Provedel in the hunt for clean sheets in Serie A.
The 35-year-old Swiss goalkeeper arrived at the Nerazzurri last summer from Bayern Munich in a low-cost deal, replacing Andre Onana following his high-profile transfer to Manchester United.
Sommer immediately impressed with Inter and has continued to shine across the course of this season, although he did leave a little to be desired in their painful Champions League penalty shoot-out loss to Atletico Madrid.
Page 16 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Sommer has the chance to achieve the record for the most clean sheets in a single Serie A season, having already secured 17 with 10 Serie A matches left to play.
The record for clean sheets in a single league campaign stands at 21, set by Fabio Cudicini with Milan, Sebastiano Rossi with Milan, Buffon with Juventus, Morgan De Sanctis with Roma and Provedel with Lazio.
Sommer now just needs to keep five more clean sheets across the next 10 Serie A games to take the undisputed record.
He will match Buffon when it comes to the ‘achievement’ of not winning the champions league.
😂 Haters everywhere
