For this reason, there are several defenders with their contracts expiring in June 2021 who have being monitored by the Serie A giants.
Napoli’s Nikola Maksimovic, 29, is a long-time target of the Nerazzurri and he is not expected to sign a contract extension with the Partenopei.
The former Torino defender is an option for Inter and the same is true of Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi and Newcastle’s Fabian Schar.
According to Tuttosport, Betis’ Alissa Madi and Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng are also on Inter’s radars.
All of them will see their contracts expire in June and Marotta could sign one of them to strengthen the Nerazzurri's defensive department.
The Inter's director has already secured several free transfers in his career.
During his spell at Juventus, he brought to Turin the likes of Paul Pogba, Dani Alves, Patrice Evra and Sami Khedira for free, just to name a few.
